Sizing Boy's Snow Pants - Snowsuits, Snow Bibs

Waist:
Snow pants, bibs, ski and snowboard pants for boys all tend to be built roomy in the waist in order to accommodate clothing worn underneath. A general guideline for picking out a size is to look for pants an inch or two larger in the waist than you'd wear in jeans. Many snowpants and bibs have some elasticity in the waist so we provide measurements of both the relaxed and stretched waistline.

Inseam:
To help fit with winter boots, and under-layers of clothing, the inseam on winter outerwear pants is usually shorter than on regular pants. Bib style pants with adjustable shoulder straps allow you to pull up or let down the pants a bit. This lets you do adjustments to have the pants fit over boot tops and kept free from dragging on the ground under the heels.

Shoulder to Cuff Length:
This measurement we provide is particularly helpful when you know the height of the child. Using the size chart below find your child's height and then see the shoulder height in the next column. Snow pants with adjustable straps provide great range for letting the pants up or down as necessary. When we state "Shoulder to Cuff Length" we're providing measurements of the pants with straps fully shortened and then at their maximum reach.

Since the early days of megabrat.com we've known that boy's winter outerwear makers vary widely in their sizes and proportions making it difficult for customers to know which article will fit best. Since the maker's size labels are too varied to be relied upon we've produced a size guide based on real measurements of boys ages 18 months to 18 years to help you select the right size items.

The data for this chart was gathered from measurements of hundreds of snow pants and snowsuits, our customers and in person measurements of children in and out of winter outerwear. The measurements were cross referenced against several major growth charts and anthropometric surveys of boys ages 18 months to 18 years. The resulting numbers represent our statistical averages. Numbers are given in inches and have been rounded to the nearest quarter inch.

To use the boy's snow pants and snowsuit size chart first find your child's height in the height column and then use the measurements in the adjacent columns as a guide to picking out the right length of snowsuit or snow pants. Most of our items are listed with their shoulder to cuff length, waist and inseam. If you see an item on our site that you're interested in but complete measurements are missing then please let us know and we'll provide the measurements for you.

This column represents our suggestion for the right length of clothing for that particular height and shoulder height of child. This is merely a suggestion. You might prefer your clothing an inch or two longer or shorter than our suggestion.

This column represents the full length of leg from floor to crotch. On average, but not always, this actual inseam length corresponds with the height mentioned in the same row. i.e.: A child standing 34 inches tall is likely to have a 14 inch inseam

Ideal inseam length for boys snow pants or snowsuits: To allow for movement, bulky clothes, boots, and to keep cuffs off the ground inseams are usually 1-3 inches shorter than the child's real leg length. Another way to determine a good inseam length is to measure the inseam on a pair of pants that fit your child perfectly. That length may be a good guide to determining the best inseam length for his outerwear.
